Aternos manages plugin files through its control panel, so the workflow differs from uploading a jar to a self-hosted server. The important steps are choosing plugin-compatible software, installing from the library and reading the server log after restart.
Choose compatible server software
Use a plugin-capable Java server platform in the Aternos software panel, such as Paper. A vanilla server does not load Bukkit plugins. Changing server software can affect worlds and settings, so use the host backup tools first.
Install from the plugin library
Open the Aternos plugins area, search for SkinsRestorer and install the available compatible entry. You do not double-click or manually run the plugin file. The host places it in the server environment.
Restart the server
Stop and start the server so the plugin loads during a clean startup. Watch the console or log for the SkinsRestorer name and any error. If the plugin is absent, recheck that the server software supports plugins.
Useful command examples
Basic named-skin verification after startup.
/skin NotchRefresh the current player skin when permitted.
/skin updateCheck that the GUI command is registered.
/skinsTest a basic skin command
Join the server and try a simple named-skin command. If it works as an operator but not as a player, the remaining issue is likely permissions rather than installation.
Secure cracked or offline access
Aternos guidance warns that offline or cracked access can allow name spoofing. SkinsRestorer only restores appearance. Use an authentication plugin supported by your server software and keep operator privileges protected.
Handle outdated skins
Use the supported update command and restart if necessary. Cached data and upstream service timing can affect what appears. Confirm the player’s current account skin on another supported environment before deleting plugin data.
Read logs before reinstalling
Repeated uninstall and reinstall cycles can erase useful evidence. Save the relevant log lines, note the server version and check whether the hosted plugin build supports that version before changing software again.
